Prague Zoo, Zoo Praha, is located in the hilly Troja district. It is an absolute must-visit for anyone who loves animals and nature. Founded in 1931, Zoo Praha has grown into one of the most renowned zoos in Europe. With over 4,600 animals representing 630 species, the zoo offers a fascinating experience for visitors of all ages. Covering an expansive 60 hectares, the zoo is not only a place of entertainment but also plays a crucial role in the conservation of endangered species, such as the Przewalski's horse, which has been saved from extinction thanks to the zoo’s efforts.

The zoo is so vast that even on a busy day, you can still find peace among the animals. One of the highlights of Zoo Praha is the diverse and natural environment in which the animals are housed.

Thematic Zones

The zoo is divided into several thematic zones, such as the African Savanna, the Indonesian Jungle, and the Polar Regions, where animals live in habitats that closely resemble their natural surroundings. This makes a walk through the zoo not only educational but also visually captivating.

Additionally, the zoo offers spectacular views over the city of Prague, making the experience even more unique.

Experience from You Love Prague

On a warm Monday morning, just before nine, I find myself standing at the zoo's gate, eager to step into a world of wildlife and adventure.

Bus 112 just took me from Nádraží Holešovice metro station and dropped me off right in front of the entrance.

With my Prague CoolPass, I get in for free, but I still need to join the short queue for a physical ticket.

Right on time, at nine o’clock sharp, the gates open, and I step inside.

It’s a fantastic place for a walk—up and down the hills, surrounded by greenery. The paths are wide, everything is clean, and the landscaping is absolutely stunning. Even if you just come for a long stroll, the zoo is well worth a visit.

At many enclosures, I’m the only visitor—except at the giraffes, elephants, and gorillas, where two little ones steal the show, and everyone wants to take a picture.

After more than three hours of exploring, I settle down at a terrace and enjoy a delicious, affordable wrap with a pivo.

I had more planned for the day, so I’m saving what I haven’t seen for another visit. And there will definitely be another visit - Prague Zoo exceeds all my expectations of a zoo.

A baby gorilla steals the spotlight, drawing plenty of admirers.
